Amidst all the excitement surrounding the original HTC Desire getting the Android Gingerbread update, the Desire Z owners are probably feeling left out. But you have no reason to feel that way anymore as HTC has started rolling out the Gingerbread update to Desire Z handsets across the world.

This information was provided by HTC a few days back stating that the update will start rolling out in a few weeks but is now being confirmed by carriers that it has already started rolling out in certain countries, such as Vodafone Australia. The software number for this update is 2.42.861.6 and will update the Android version to 2.3.3 with Sense UI 2.1.

The update is rolling out gradually so you may not see anything now but you will soon be getting a notification on your phone asking you to download the 104MB update, so make sure you are latched onto a fast data connection. And do let us know what all improvements you find in the new update once you receive it.

An alternative color version of the HTC Incredible S has just been spotted on a Danish retailer’s website. If black seemed all too played out for you, you will eventually have a chance to get the latest HTC smartphone flagship in red.

Now there is no price mentioned on the site so the red Incredible S clearly isn’t in stock just yet, but its existence is confirmed now. We are not quite sure red is the perfect choice for the second option as silver, for example might have had a broader appeal. Still, having options is good and that’s why this is pretty good news.

HTC Incredible S in red

We are yet to know when exactly the red Incredible S will hit the shelves and if it will be available globally. We are also to confirm if this version will cost the same as the black one.

By the way we are on our way to publishing a full-blown review on the HTC Incredible S. You can check out the unboxing and hands-on video in our blog (there’s some live photos there too) for now and keep an eye on the homepage next week to make sure you won’t miss it.

We aren’t huge fans of mobile phones that are exclusive to a limited number of carriers, so this one sounds like very good news. The HTC Aria is no longer available at the AT&T and Telstra only. So rejoice the rest of the world, you are about to get another midrange Android handset with a pretty sleek design.

The first country to get an unlocked Aria will be the HTC homeland, Taiwan. The handset should hit the shelves tomorrow but we couldn’t quite see what the pricing will be. The machine-translated press release mentions 14900 yuan but considering that this is about 1700 euro, a price of 1490 seems much more likely.

Update: One of our readers tipped us that the quoted price is 14900 Taiwanese dollars, which equals just over 400 euro. Ouch!

Technically HTC haven’t mentioned a word about the Aria hitting other countries, but once the exclusivity chains are broken, this should be inevitable. It’s not like we can’t put to good use a nice little midrange Android handset with sleek design and sensible price tag around here in Europe.

HTC will serve some cold Froyo to help European HTC Desire owners fight the heat wave sweeping across Europe. The update will start rolling out this weekend and will bring 720p video recording, iTunes syncing and a couple of other treats as well.

You heard that right, the Android 2.2 Froyo update for the HTC Desire will enable the 720p video recording rumored from the very beginning. The HTC Sync software will also enable iTunes syncing.

The updated software for the Euro HTC Desire will of course keep the signature HTC Sense UI and bring the App Share widget and HTC’s enhanced Caller ID and a better multi-language keyboard.

The update process is simple – users will be notified when the update is available and the update won’t wipe the data from the phone. HTC suggests you hook up your Desire to a Wi-Fi network before you download the update to avoid data charges.

Unlocked HTC Desire phones will be the first to score Froyo, but owners of carrier-branded phones should be getting the update “in several weeks time”.

This piece of news comes hot on the heels of the announcement that the HTC Evo 4G phones on Sprint will be getting Froyo next week.

Hold your horses now, it’s only Asia that gets the goodies for now, Europe should be close behind in getting some of those Eclairs. Unfortunately, Android 2.1 is as good as it gets for the now aging Hero but it’s nonetheless a top-notch upgrade for owners that have been stuck at Android 1.5 for what now seems as ages.

The first signs of an Eclair update coming to the Hero appeared a few months back but as it turns out it’s only now that HTC are finally ready to release the Android v2.1 update for the device.

According to company’s support page you can download the update Over-the-Air (preferably on Wi-Fi). HTC didn’t mention any other improvements to come along with the new firmware other than the new features inherent to the fresher Android version.

Currently, Android v2.1 update for HTC Hero is only available for the users across Taiwan but it should spread around the globe soon.
